We went to visit Grandma Gorin in Olympia on Monday. It was the first time that she got to meet Bennett and Eva. She thought Eva was adorable. The best way to explain her impression of Bennett is with this story:
We went to eat lunch at the cafeteria in her complex. Grandma Gorin couldn't finish the food on her plate and so she slid it across the table to Bennett and in a very affirmative voice she said, "You're a husky fellow. You look like you eat a lot. Finish that." This was after knowing Bennett for about fifteen minutes. Bennett knew after that that he really liked this lady. After lunch she took us to her apartment and showed us a photo album from when she was growing up. She looks just like Penny as a young woman.
After visiting Grandma we went and walked around the grounds of the Washington state capitol building. The capitol building sits on a hill overlooking the Puget sound and it was very pretty.

Eva didn't know what to think about being laid down on the damp grass for a picture.

Bennett gave Eva a civics lesson on the inefficiencies of government. Ron Swanson would have been proud.

Notice that guy roped off on the right side of the dome?

Four Months Old!

Here are some 4 month old pictures.  She's approximately 25 inches long and probably weighs around 14 lbs.
I like this picture because she looks like she's in one of those pictures where everyone is supposed to be jumping at the same time.
In this picture she's got a little bit of Columbo going on.
See what I mean?

Happy 4 months Eva!  You have made your dad and me very happy!

Ode to Halloween

This was our FHE activity this week.
Michael did the ones on the right and left and I did the one in the center.

This is Michael's Halloween costume.  The original just had the torso and head; I added the arms and legs.  Such a cute boy!

Eva's Portrait

You know when there are those photo studio deals where they will take one portrait for $20 but when you go look at the proofs you end up buying all of the portraits for a lot more than $20 cause the little girl in them is so cute? Well, guess what we did this week...

Grandmas, which picture would you like a copy of?

We are renaming this blog from "The Red Cloth" to "Pictures of Eva"

This is what we do on a Sunday evening when we don't have any friends or family to visit, we take pictures of our daughter.

Eva Lily is almost four months old now. FOUR MONTHS!!! She can hold her head up and she can sit up with the help of a pillow, like the boppy. She loves sucking on her own hands, trying to cram the whole hand in her mouth at once is a special delight. She loves when her dad makes heavy metal guitar sounds and she likes to sit with mom and dad at night and read picture books. She hates to get dressed, mostly the part of having anything pulled over her head. She also doesn't like to be kept waiting when she's hungry.  She rolled over for the first time this week but I think that was due to her hating "tummy time" so much that she would do anything to get into a different position (including rolling over).  She's grabbing things with her hands and shoves everything in her mouth, especially anything made of fabric.  She likes to stay awake until 11:30 at night and wake up at 7:00 am. However, she is getting better at taking naps during the day.  She smiles all the time, especially right when she wakes up and right after she's done nursing.  She likes taking baths and she likes kicking her legs (especially in the bath and on the changing table).  She LOVES being on her changing table.  She can be crying murder but when we put her on the changing table she stops.  She also stops crying if you turn on a flash light or walk by a TV while holding her.  She appears to be easily distracted by shinny, bright, flashing things (just like her dad). She likes to snuggle. She will push her head into the crook of your neck when you are holding her. It is so sweet. She gets very impatient when breastfeeding. A NASCAR driver doesn't put up with a slow pit crew and Eva doesn't put up with any lag between switching sides or burping. She wants her milk and she wants it now!
She is wonderful to have in our lives.

Eva doing her best Captain Kirk impersonation

Changing table photography studio

This morning Katie was playing with Eva on her changing table after changing her diaper and the sun was shining through the window so I took some quick pictures. I don't know a lot about "people pictures" yet but as I take more and more of Eva I am learning a little at a time. As in all photography the angles and the light are very important but I don't know how to judge them yet with people. Anyways, enjoy.

We couldn't wait for Halloween

We saw this cute Elephant costume at Costco the other day and decided to buy it for Eva for Halloween. Then we were so excited to see her in it, so we dressed her up tonight after work and drove over to a little roadside stand that was selling pumpkins and apples and other fall harvest stuff and asked them if we could take some pictures. Of course Eva looks so darn cute that they couldn't say no. Once again we couldn't get her to smile for the camera. She was too distracted by all the people walking around.

This is Eva's little pet giraffe. She likes to try and get the ears in her mouth.

After we got back from taking pictures in her elephant costume we put Eva in the bath and all of a sudden she became miss smiley pants. Where were those smiles when we had you all dressed up? The color in these pictures is a little weird because of the light in our bathroom and I didn't feel like fixing it.
