Cirque du Soleil and Goonies

We went and saw a traveling cirque show called "Dralion" on thursday. It was amazing. Just amazing!!!! OH it was so AWESOME I wanna scream AMAZING. I love Cirque du Soleil. They are amazing, the show was amzing. AAAAHHHH!!!!!!

Last night we went and saw Goonies in a movie theater that shows older movies. It was fun but not as AMAZING as Dralion. Oh how I loved that show. Simply Amazing.
In true Oregon fashion the movie theater had a garbage can and a compost can.

I made these a couple weeks ago and they turned out great! I thought I would share it with those who can eat gluten (sorry Christine and Leesa!).

Cinnamon Rolls

1 c. milk (heated approximately 1 minute in microwave)

1/4 c. warm water (110 degrees)

1 t. pure vanilla extract

1/2 c. butter, room temperature

2 eggs, room tempterature and beaten

1/2 t. salt

1/2 c. granulated sugar

5 c. bread flour

1 T. vibal wheat gluten

3 t. instant active dry yeast

Put all these in your kitchenaid (or bosch, if you must...) in this order (I didn't activate the yeast in water first but added it last). Kneed ingredients for 10 minutes in kitchenaid. Let dough rise. Roll out dough and spread butter, brown sugar and cinnamon out of rolled square of dough. Roll up dough (but not too tightly, rolling too tightly decreases the ability for dough to rise). Cut into rolls. Let rise to double in size. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.

05:55: Katie begins walking to gas station to buy WD-40
06:55 pm: Katie returns from 3 mile round trip walk to gas station to apply WD-40 to broken ignition
07:00 pm: many people attempt to contact Bennett, who sits watching the baseball game unaware of his wife's troubles, not expecting her home until 08:00 pm
07:20 pm: Katie gets directions on how to get home using public transportation from Jake
07:24 pm: Katie walks to store to get cash back to ride the bus
07:28 pm: first store doesnt give cash back
07:36 pm: second store doesnt give cash back
07:44 pm: third store does give cash back but upon opening the register the drawer gets stuck and Katie has to wait another ten minutes until the clerk gets it unstuck
08:00 pm: Katie boards the bus

01:13 pm: Katie pays mechanic and drives home exhausted in rental car, leaving her car until she can pick it up and return the rental with Bennett after work.
08:00 pm: having picked up both cars Katie and Bennett stop at gas station to fill up both cars.
08:03 pm: Wanting to only put in enough gas to fill the rental car to 3/4 of a gallon Katie puts in 5 dollars worth of gas. It's not enough.
08:05 pm: Katie puts in another 5 dollars of gas. still not enough
08:07 pm: When she tries again Katies card is declined because of fraud alert.
08:09 pm: Bennett goes into gas station to pay with his card
08:11 pm: upon returning to car Bennett realizes he has locked his keys in the car (with the new ignition switch the car now has a different key for the door and the ignition and Bennett is holding only one, the wrong one)
08:15 pm: Katie begins crying when Bennett informs her of the locked car. She refuses to get out of the car, or drive the car back home to get the keys, or talk or do anything. She has had enough.
08:21 pm: While crying Katie glances at the gas meter, still not at 3/4 of a gallon. She cries harder.
08:27 pm: Bennett tries to calm Katie down while simultaneously trying to stop laughing from the absurdity of it all.
08:33 pm: while still parked at the gas station a tow truck stops in for gas and he is able to open our car door.
09:30 pm: finally return home.

Beaverton Home

Here are some pictures of our new apartment. Below, you'll notice our clean, cute but tiny kitchen. Behind the kitchen is the dinning room. See what I mean? Tiny! You can see basically all the counter space in the picture below. You can also see the Dahlias that Bennett gave me on the counter. They're getting ready to bloom.

The dinning room which is spacious (or should I say more spacious than the kitchen?).

This is our computer area which shares the room with the couch and TV. I colored that kite hanging in the background. I bought it so I could take it to the beach with the next people who come visit us.

The TV and book shelves. See the orchids on the table? Gift from Bennett!

Our extra room holds boxes and my music therapy stuff (and any visitors).

This is the dresser in our bedroom. The bed is directly across from it.

Our bed. I got these "shutters" (closet doors) for free on craigslist and painted them red.

Well, this concludes the tour of apartment #2 in four months of living in Oregon. Hope you enjoyed it. Anyone else want to share??

Happy Birthday to Me!!!

When I got home on monday (my day of birth 28 years ago) Bennett had made this beautifully delicious cake and bought me some dahlias and orchids. I'll take pictures of thoses too. Now, I'm going to go clean the house and take pictures of our new apartment and hopefully inspire some others (Emalee and anyone who hasn't shown what their casa looks like lately) to post some pictures.
Mmmm... looking at this cake makes me want cake right now. This was the best cake I've ever eaten. It had white chocolate in the batter and in the frosting.

Anchors Away My Boys.....Anchors Away

Ever notice that for being an efficient killing machine with an app for destruction the Armed Forces have really lame and wussy theme songs.

The three week Portland Rose Festival is drawing to a close this weekend with fleet week and the Grand Floral Parade. Below are some of the floats from the parade. The entire exterior of the float has to be made from organic materials. Thousands and thousands of pieces of colored rice and flowers never looked so good. Take this float below, everything you see is made from rice, seeds, flower petals etc.

The Starlight Parade

We had a dinner picnic along the Willamette river and then went downtown to watch the Starlight Parade, which is a knock off of the Disneyland Main Street Electrical Parade with a few Portland touches, like an S&M float. We watched the parade from the fourth floor of a parking garage which is not as Four Stars luxury as it sounds but is still a pretty cool place to watch a parade.

The highlight of the evening was when the four square dancing float narrowly missed a run in with the 8:15 train to Gresham.

On our way home we got stuck in a very long traffic jam. See if you can spot the error in judgement in these two road signs, seen less than thirty feet apart on a three lane highway; "Right Lane Ends, Merge Left" and "Left Two Lanes End, Merge Right"
