Sunburns on Cape Disappointment, Washington

Since we were not able to visit Salt Lake City this weekend we decided to drown our sorrows with a trip to the beach. We went to Cape Disappointment, Washington. Named by Capt. William Clark of the Lewis and Clark expedition in honor of Meriwether Lewis as noted in Clark's journal, "We have reached the Pacific despite the idiocy of my companion. That moron has been an utter disappointment." Cape disappointment has been the site of over 2,000 shipwrecks and is nicknamed the "graveyard of the Pacific."

The beach was really pretty. It was rolling sand dunes with beach grass meadows that ran right up to the shore with these little fences all over the place. Katie said it reminded her of "Anne of Green Gables" which made me cry.

Katie flying her home made kite.

When we got home we were both sunburned. That's what happens when you see no sun for 5 months and then spend 8 hours on the beach.

comment 1: Where are the other people. That looked like such an idealic spot.
comment 2: I am reading the history of the lewis and clark expidition by Steve Ambrose and I have yet to read anywhere where he states that clark is a complete moron. I will reread it carefully because I must have skipped that part.

Penny, first of all it was Lewis who was the brain dead disappointment, not Clark, and of course an industry drone like Ambrose won't tell you the true story about Lewis and Clark.
