Joel Turns 2

Here are some pics from Joel's 2nd Birthday Party at Josh and Emalee's house. The little girls is Joel's cousin Jewel. Notice the awesome cake Emalee made.

Kanami's Baptism

Rika made this dress from scratch.

After Kanami's baptism we went to the temple to talk about eternal families and the importance of baptism. We did the same when Elann was baptized, it was a good experience and I highly recommend it.

4th of July, Portland style

This is the cool berry farm we went to where you pick your own produce. We picked 4 lbs. of Raspberries and Tayberries for 6 dollars. Then we made our own Tayberry jam.

This is the Portland Blues Festival that they have every year on the waterfront before the fireworks show. They had a dance floor set up and it was an exhibit of Portlands wierdest. We only took a few pictures before we felt bad about making fun of the people. This first guy kept doing handstands in the middle of the dance floor and then would go through an extensive and demonstrative stretching routine to prepare for his next handstand all the while oblivious to those trying to dance around him.

Bike Ride around Oquirrh Lake

Grandpa took Elann, Kanami, Tyler and Isaac on a bike ride around the lake at Daybreak. It was fun. Kanami crashed once but she was okay. Back at grandpa's house we have Que Bueno, chips and ice cream. (Leave the nutrition to the men and all is well!)

Penny's Garden

If things aren't as green here as they are in Portland why is our garden so fabuloso?

ATV to Lake Mountain South

Penny and I were thwarted in our attempts last week to ride up Lake Mountain from the north - rock fall on the trail. So this week we went up via a south trail which is a little maintained by the radio, microwave and TV broadcast companies that have towers and antennas atop Lake Mountain.

Garden

We finally have a community garden plot here in Portland. we were on the waiting list so we didn't get started until about three weeks ago but it is growing good.

Sunburns on Cape Disappointment, Washington

Since we were not able to visit Salt Lake City this weekend we decided to drown our sorrows with a trip to the beach. We went to Cape Disappointment, Washington. Named by Capt. William Clark of the Lewis and Clark expedition in honor of Meriwether Lewis as noted in Clark's journal, "We have reached the Pacific despite the idiocy of my companion. That moron has been an utter disappointment." Cape disappointment has been the site of over 2,000 shipwrecks and is nicknamed the "graveyard of the Pacific."

The beach was really pretty. It was rolling sand dunes with beach grass meadows that ran right up to the shore with these little fences all over the place. Katie said it reminded her of "Anne of Green Gables" which made me cry.

When we got home we were both sunburned. That's what happens when you see no sun for 5 months and then spend 8 hours on the beach.
